The late Dr David Styles wrote many articles and papers for presentation on aviation subjects, particularly for the Naval 8 / 208 Squadron Association. He was a Life Vice-President of the Association, its Historian, author of the 208 Squadron History ‘All The Eights’, and was the Association’s Newsletter Editor for no less than 35 years.

In 1996, to celebrate the Squadron’s 80th Anniversary, he produced this marvellous booklet to summarise its operational history from its formation at Le Vert Galant in 1916 to the retirement of the Buccaneer in 1994 and the establishment of 208 Squadron as a flying training unit at RAF Valley in Anglesey.

Replete with illustrations, many from David’s own personal collection, the book takes the best from ‘Naval Eight’ and Douglas Marr’s History of 208 Squadron to 1966, and brings the story up to date through the remainder of the Hunter and Buccaneer eras, succinctly in David’s own personable style.

Between 2001 and 2003, copies of this booklet were given to each student pilot arriving on 208 Squadron in order to encourage and reinforce the ethos of the Squadron and the Service. Sadly, the book is now out of print and the publishers no longer in business.
