In the following months of 1937 the Squadron was continually detaching flights for exercises in co-operation with the Army and the Squadron could be found in Fayid, Burrumbul, Heiwan, Ramleh and Mersa Matruh. In August a training camp was established at Aboukir on a flight basis. While on detachment each flight carried out long range W/T flights and also photographic training, developing and printing being executed under field conditions. A bombing demonstration was laid on to impress upon the Army Staff and Commanders the danger of air attack when directed against formations concentrated on the ground; this live demonstration was carried out on the No. 2 Suez Road Range on 29th October. The Squadron dropped 20 pound bombs on ground targets together with Baby Incendiary Bombs while 45 Squadron attacked a river crossing with 112 pounders and 216 Squadron attacked a supply railhead with 550 and 250 pounders. Bombs with delayed action fuses were also
demonstrated to show the crater effect achieved. Although the results were below practice standard the demonstration achieved its object. It was unfortunate that owing to previous heavy rain the Baby Incendiary Bombs, though well laid failed to ignite the inflammable material laid out.
On a less severe note the coming of age of the Squadron in October was celebrated enthusiastically not only by members of the Squadron but also by past members whose party at the Raglan in London coincided with the Squadron’s celebration.
In February 1938 the new Squadron Badge was approved by His Majesty the King and it was presented to the Squadron on parade on 11th February by Air Vice Marshal C T Maclean CB DSO MC. The Squadron was drawn up on three sides of a square facing the flag staff on the Squadron parade ground. The Squadron was called to attention, the flag broken, and the General Salute given on the arrival of the AOC on parade. In his speech the AOC remarked that he had known 208 Squadron more intimately than any other Squadron in the Royal Air Force, and that he considered it a special privilege for him to present the badge on this occasion to a Squadron that had, to his own personal knowledge,
